Be watchful and strengthen what remains.....
“Wow! That was amazing.” That is how I would describe our first full time summer here at Silver Lake. There were difficulties and challenges, but what would life be without those? We would much rather have the difficulties that come from being in the center of God’s will for our life, than those that come from being outside of His will. All in all the wonderful blessings outweigh the challenges. Blessings like the relationships we have begun with some of you. The blessings of witnessing the Lord working in the lives of the children (young and old) He absolutely loves and adores. If this is just the beginning of what the Lord has in store for us at The Camp, we say – “bring on more, Lord”.
“Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God.” (Rev. 3:2)
This church is described as having a name that proclaims – “I am alive”, but Jesus describes them as being dead, because He knows their works. So the Lord’s counsel to His church is;
“Be watchful” – Pay attention, this is important.
“Strengthen the things which remain” – Although there is nothing wrong with new things, new buildings, new programs, Jesus counsels this church to strengthen what is already there. Because God is more concerned about people and relationships than He is about buildings, we are actively involved in strengthening relationships that remain here at Silver Lake.
“that are ready to die” – The truth is, without God giving life (because He is life), and without Him sustaining life, the things that remain will die.
“for I have not found your works perfect before God” – We have all done things that are not perfect or pleasing to God. When we recognize those things, we need to repent. We need to literally change what we were doing and do it in a way that pleases God. The reason why these people had a name like they were alive, but really they were dead is because they refused to watch and repent.
Lord, help us to be watchful, help us to strengthen the relationships that remain, and help us to turn away from things we are doing that don’t please you.
These are our intentions here at Silver Lake. This is what God has called us to do. We won’t always do this perfectly, so please be gracious to us when we fail. Enjoy browsing the website, and we look forward to seeing you here at the Lake.
